You see two weeks ago we called Missionaries Rick and Lori Wislocky in Hungary and asked them if they could shoot a short video for us a la Paula Deen of the Food Network. We needed Lori to make a recipe with all the ingredients, but with a little curve ball thrown in for fun. That way Pastor Wayde could take it from there, and talk about using the right ingredients.
Well, earlier this week I got a package from Hungary with the video enclosed. Over 20 minutes of video, and several takes of her shopping in a Budapest market, and cooking up a recipe that had been handed down from her mother-in-law, Banana Bundt Cake. Well all that video got whittled down to a 5:45 segment for our new Chow Network (spoofs are a blast), entitled Tasty Treats with Lori Ruth. Complete with graphics.
This is what makes serving in media ministry fun. Taking an idea, even if it isn't original, and delivering something that helps compliment the service.
So what did we learn from this.
- Plan ahead
- Don't recreate the wheel, spoof something that already exists.
- Sometimes what you need is not right within your church walls, so keep a tickler on people you know and their talents. No matter where in the world they are.
Oh yea, the recipe will have you salivating and then gagging. She starts out with the usual ingredients, flour, sugar, eggs, bananas, but then things go awry. She adds broccoli. Instead of greasing the pan with shortening, she uses mayonnaise. Instead of oil in the batter she uses BBQ sauce. Then when finished she use BBQ Rib Dry Rub to sprinkle on top. I can guarantee that this recipe will not be winning any cake contests soon.
