We had a very interesting devotional today in staff meeting. It focused on the fact that God uses even the "average Christian" for His kingdom even if we think they aren't rising to the occasion.
You see there are many people out there who will never be leaders and don't want to be. They won't praise the Lord effervescently. They won't sign up for every ministry opportunity. They just want to continue loving the Lord and spreading His Word through the lives they lead.
Yet many people in leadership within the church look at a person like that and feel like they are not being spiritually enriched enough. They need to get involved, step forward. We in essence cast our own expectations on their walk with the Lord. Our culture almost demands it with our reach for the stars mentality.
They just want to be an average Christian, thank you. Which is fine, but what happens when they do step forward to volunteer, but still want to be average? What happens when they take that leap of faith and got involved, but really don't want to step forward and do any more than is needed?
This is what you find quite often in the Media Ministry. Many good Christian men and women, who were led to serve, but just want to hang in the shadows. They don't want to lead, just serve. The challenge lies in that, though they themselves may be in the shadows, usually the piece of equipment they are running is leading the entire congregation.
How do you convince them of the importance of serving God with excellence? That leading a congregation of 3000 or 30 is an important responsibility? How do you convince them that just showing up on Sunday morning to run a camera may not be giving God the excellence He deserves?
How does God mold an excellent servant out of a average Christian?
