In God We Trust

In God We Trust is the official national motto of the United States . The motto first appeared on a United States coin in 1864, but In God We Trust did not become the official U.S. national motto until after the passage of an Act of Congress in 1956.

Since then it seems as though we have put more trust in our money than in God. It is funny how that seems to be one of the only remaining places where you can even see anything that is produced by the government and mentions God. Bibles are gone from schools and 10 Commandments from courtrooms. You have to ask yourself, do we trust in God? Do we still believe in God in this country? Should the government tell us to trust in God or should we naturally want to trust in God?

It is interesting that President Theodore Roosevelt took issue with placing the motto on coinage as he considered it sacrilegious to put the name of God on money. Where is the line between God and government?

Yes our country and much of our government framework was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but our country began when a group of people fled a volatile political environment that was filled with religious persecution. We now have freedom of religion, but many take that to mean freedom from religion.

So I ask again, as a country, do we still TRUST IN GOD? As a country, do we still BELIEVE IN GOD?

Over the next few weeks we will be taking a close look at some of these questions. Pastor Wayde will begin this Sunday as it pertains to the fear that has entered in to many people regarding the economy and other current events. Then Rick Green from Wallbuilders will speak on November 2, bringing us a look at our forgotten history and heroes with an emphasis on our moral, religious and constitutional heritage.

I would love to hear some of your thoughts. Both prior the presentations over the next two weeks, as well as after you hear what is presented. Drop me an email or give me a call.
