It's a Frenzy

A frenzy is coming to town today. You can probably hear the screeching and screaming of pre-teen and teen girls from where you sit (they are also popular with six year olds). The Jonas Brothers are playing Hershey Park tonight. Joe, Nick and Kevin are the latest act to send the hearts of many beating rapidly. It’s not new, every generation has had one. The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and New Kids on the Block…The Monkees and The Beatles (I told you every generation.)

What is amazing is the frenzy that surrounds them. People that are generally not outspoken or extroverted all of sudden lose their prospective, and in some cases, their rationality. They do things that they would have never thought of doing. They will do anything, to see them, to talk to them or touch them. They build themselves up into a frenzy.

Most people write off the reaction of the teen girls as hormones, but is that it? I don’t think so. We’ve all seen grown women and men become wild with excitement. Acting out in a frenzy (ever been to a football game?) So it’s not just hormones, its passion. The teen girls passion for young men who can sing and dance (and look pretty good too) explodes in a frenzy.

The thing about frenzies though, is they are usually short lived. They tend to be a moment in time as our passions change. What was important then is not now. We move on to our newest passion.

Remember when you found the Lord? How excited you were? The frenzy your life took on? Everything you did seem to be done with a passion and excitement. Your heart beat more rapidly as you rejoiced in your new found excitement.

Then, later, maybe months-maybe years, the frenzy died down. Your passion became matter of fact. Your expectations, taken for granted. You act as if you have moved on?
Why?
